Holiday Inn Express & Suites Thunder Bay, an IHG Hotel

Nice hotel. Comfortable beds. Really great pillows. Clean bright spacious rooms. Bright clean bathrooms. Free breakfast, much better than your typical hotel breakfast. Friendly staff. The only thing I’d change is the use of disposable thin plastic cups in the rooms, which is a puzzling bit of downmarket and of course has a negative environmental footprint.

Overall just overpriced bunk. We arrived after 11pm and saw that it was situated beside a “roadhouse” bar. Lots of nice action in the parking lot. We got charged $310.00 for a king bed, their apparent “only room left”. For that privilege, we got a horrible old mattress, shower stall faucet that needs repair, no working bathroom fan, and breakfast the next morning was bare bones ridiculous and cheap. I am directly comparing my experience to the amazing Best Western, where I can get a beautiful, clean and comfortable room with a “make your own waffles” breakfast, for $153.00. I am a member there but could not get a room as they were full. I see other reviews describing rooms as “spacious” and that’s why they get high scores. Our room was incredibly spacious. So much that it was wasted space. It didn’t do anything for us. We don’t want the space, we want a comfortable bed, working fixtures, a decent breakfast, and a reasonable price. At the very least, they should have heavily discounted the room given the hour. If in future it comes down to the Holiday Inn or my car for a night’s sleep, I’ll choose the latter.

The hotel was nice and pet friendly. It got a star knocked off because the advertised breakfast was supposed to start at 6:30 and was only being set out when we left at 7:10. I understand that the bored millennial doing the breakfast job does not have much else to do, but travelers want to get going and be back on the road. The hotel had nice rooms and plenty of well lit parking. I might return. .

This hotel had availability when our car broke down, so we booked it right away. They were so kind and gracious, letting us rebook day after day until our car was fixed. The rooms were fantastic. The pool area was clean and refreshing after so much stress. And the breakfast was plentiful and yummy. The lady who looks after the breakfast area was fantastic...she always was singing her little do-da, with a smile. All the front desk attendants were helpful and friendly.

My Husband, our son and his dog and I stayed in a pet friendly room while travelling from Nanaimo to South Western Ontario (a very long drive). We booked this room last minute, the front desk staff we very friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable, we had zero issues and would stay here again. The breakfast and kitchen staff were upbeat and happy. Probably the best breakfast of our week of hotel stays. With so many hotels to choose from in a small area, we know we picked the best one!
